Outside of college I'm involved in a charity called 'Hear My Music' which aims to bring music to people of different abilities. Both last week and today I've been helping my employer, Emily Carr, with a project linking a special needs school, a primary school and an additional support unit in a High School together in Glenrothes. There are some challenging aspects to this projects for example managing the children's behaviour and creating activities that suit all abilities so that no one is excluded. However, both the rehearsals last Wednesday and the concert today went very well. As this was a three month project, the success of the concert was a big relief to myself, my employer and a visiting cellist Greg Sinclair. I hope to do more projects of this nature in the future, not just in Glenrothes but in other special schools in different regions of Scotland.
The concert consisted of chamber music by modden composer Peter Longworth. Peter has also released a short ep of this work. The pieces were preformed by the Astrid Quartet, the Bilitis Trio (one of the members of this trio is a close friend of mine Murdo whom plays pedal harp) Barbara De Biasi who plays piano. Over all the concert was very successful and enjoyable for me as an audience member because I felt like I was being taken on a musical journey throughout.
