Hip Hip Hooray, I managed to hand in my song 'Daylight' on time. I feel I really learned a lot from doing this rescue. Many parts of it are developed from the original. I and my amanuensis now know more about Sibelius 6, the software programme for composing to score. I learned that poetry or other texts can be a source to trigger an idea. In this case the idea was of daylight touching the landscape.
Oops! I've really crashed and burned because I misunderstood the instructions given to me by Tommy and Taylor, so I'm having to re-write my song. From this mistake I've learned that I need to pay close attention to what the instructions are for the task given and keep checking it. (I need to listen to notes on recording or get them read to me from a pad) . Any composer has to stick to the given brief of the commission. So, I had to do a midnight run to find inspiration for a lyric. In the end I chose an excerpt from 'Leaves of Grass' by Walt Whitman. I am using the first few lines of each poetic phrase to inspire me. The poem's phases begin with the words, 'I see....' and I have changed the words to, 'I touch....' and thereafter I have added my own words.
I am transferring some of the material I had already from a 'Logic' score of 'Daylight' (the songs title) and play it into 'Sibelius' . I have reduced the speed and the length of the piece to fit the assessment brief, so hopefully I can submit the song in time.
Last week I added two tracks to Club of Chill these are subtle drums plus a bit of piano. On Thursday of this week I will be making some changes to the overall volume of the piece.
