Thanks to my friend Jenny I was able to enjoy a touch tour backstage before the show The Magic Flute. As we are both blind we appreciate the opportunity to touch props, costumes and part of the set (the couch to which poor Pamina is chained by Monostatos). We also had audio description but this did not distract from the wonderful orchestra or the excellent singers. Before the start we were given a description of the set plus a reading of parts of the programme notes. I noticed that the cast gave the drama/story and the singing equal treatment. Also we noticed that two of the main characters had different regional accents and this was remarked on by Papagano adding to the humour. Instrumentation included a celeste, harpsichord, harp and flute.
